Arnau García was recently promoted to Team Manager. After six years with EDICOM as a Software Integrator, he first evolved towards more complex projects and now runs his own team of 18 people. In his interview, he tells us about the process leading up to his new position and his personal view of the new situation that has given him self-confidence.
EDICOM: What was your first job in EDICOM and what were you doing?
Six years ago, I joined the Consulting Department as a software integrator. In the beginning, I was taking part in simpler projects, helping the clients to use our tools and facilitating the integration of their internal system towards standard formats for the exchange of the different EDI flows. Little by little, I began participating in more complex projects that were challenging and helped me to develop quickly.
E: What post do you currently hold and what is your job?
I am currently a Team Manager with a team of 18 technicians. As well as being able to continue to play an active part in the project, I’m responsible for organizing the team internally. My job includes supporting my colleagues if they have any doubts or blockages that arise in the daily tasks. I review scheduling along with the Project Managers to take the work undertaken forward. And I am also in charge of creating a climate of good attitude and cohesion, liaising between people and other departments if necessary.
I’m also responsible for assessing and mentoring my colleagues, identifying their strengths and weaknesses and advising them on how to improve them.
In short, it is about developing the internal potential of team members and encouraging their growth within the company.
E: What do you most appreciate about this new job as Team Manager?
What I value most in this new position is the knowledge that my work helps to improve the team members, both professionally and personally. The truth is that I really enjoy contributing my experience to ongoing developments. And I continue to learn as I participate in many more projects and see different points of view. I can say that this position has boosted my confidence and I feel highly valued within the company.
E: What challenges do you face in this new post?
The main challenge of this new position consists of learning how to approach personnel management. This is something that is totally new for me and I hope to be up to the task. Fortunately, I took EDICOM in-house course where I saw the key points of this aspect and I will now be able to apply what I have learned.
In addition, being a reference within the team means you always have to do your best and maintain exemplary behaviour at all times.
