On March 23, a group of new employees joined EDICOM. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, their initial training was conducted remotely before starting to work remotely with the allocated team.
A selection of these newcomers to the company are students from the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering (ETSINF) at the Polytechnic University of Valencia who began their professional practice (adapted remotely due to the situation) in EDICOM.
In collaboration with the ETSINF, we have compiled testimonies on the remote practical experience of the protagonists. Alberto Sena, Head of Training at EDICOM, highlighted that the online training allowed “more active interaction with each pupil”. It has also enhanced skills such as communication and cooperation.
In turn, one of the practical tutors and Software Engineer in EDICOM, Eduardo Sobrevela, explained how SCRUM methodology combined with working tools such as video calls or virtual whiteboards “helps the student to integrate easily with the team”. They were also encouraged to develop analytical thinking for working in a purely professional environment.
The students’ experience
One of the trainees, Sergio Nevado, from the 4th year of the IT Engineering Degree, points out as advantages the possibility to “mix with several colleagues” and observe the work of other teams to clear up their doubts.
Iván Cortegoso, 4th year student on the IT Engineering Degree, comments that he has felt strongly supported. “The exceptional situation gave rise to a rapprochement with the other colleagues and a very good work climate was formed”. He added that the daily videoconferences with the rest of the team made it possible to forge a close relationship with the team and trainers.
Lastly, Héctor Palmero, a 3rd year student of the Double Degree in Computer Engineering + ADE, considers that “work can be carried out without problems”. In addition, he has learned how to handle very useful contact tools for the working world.
In addition to the ETSINF students, in this period EDICOM has also incorporated internship students from other education centres such as Florida Universitaria.
