Ángel Fernández is a Software Engineer: In less than a year he has had time to make the most of his EDICOM experience: discovering new technologies, perfecting his English, immersing himself in projects that allow him to explore new fields and winning the Paddle Championship in his category. EDICOM: What do you do in EDICOM?
ÁNGEL FERNÁNDEZ: I’m in the Development team, and specifically I’m in the Multi-team. It’s a multifunctional team, in which all the developer profiles are full stack and we work on development and maintenance of the different applications assigned to the team.
E: What do you appreciate most about your work?
A.F.: What I value the most is the team’s commitment to growth, with ongoing improvement and automation of tests. I think it saves us a lot of time in testing the developments we have already achieved and allows us to focus on learning new things and developing, which is what we like at the end of the day.
E: What challenges arise in your work?
A.F.: The main challenges I have consist of continuing to grow at the same level as a team, because our team is quite committed, and continuing to learn new technologies. Keeping up-to-date with the latest versions of all the technologies we use at all times, and maintaining the applications.
E: What opportunity has EDICOM provided you with?
A.F.: It is giving me the chance to learn English, because until now I hadn’t had much opportunity due to lack of time, and I am improving a lot with the courses EDICOM offers. In addition, we are working on a back end application with Node, which is something quite unusual to date. In fact, the development trend is moving into that field, but so far I hadn’t had the chance to work in this field in a backend project with Node and to tell the truth, I’m also rather enjoying it.
E: Any projects that you feel particularly proud of?
A.F.: I feel quite proud of practically all the projects I work on, because it allows me to explore a lot of fields and many technologies, which is what I like. We recently started development of the data repository, which is a project in which we have completely turned around our usual way of thinking, and we are trying to make it 100% reactive. It is a new turn in our way of working and, for the moment, we are liking it and it is bringing us a lot of growth.
E: Favourite technologies
A.F.: I don’t currently have any favourite technology. I think there is an ideal technology for each kind of solution. I like to change and I like to study and that is something which I’m now able to do in EDICOM. Each project is totally different and we have sought the best technology for each solution for each application. If I had to choose the one with which I feel more comfortable, because of my work experience, it would be Angular and Java.
E: Tell us some curiosities or anecdotes about EDICOM.
A.F.: The truth is that I haven’t been here long and with the pandemic it has been quite difficult, but recently we were able to play the EDICOM Paddle Tournament and my partner and I were lucky enough to win the tournament at the intermediate level. Very good, very happy, I had a great time that day.
