Carlos Martínez is a Software Integrator at EDICOM. After almost two years with the company, he has had time to speak Italian and English with clients around the world and dive into e-billing projects throughout Latin America. Find out a little more about him in this interview.

EDICOM: What do you do in EDICOM?

CARLOS MARTÍNEZ: As Software Integrators, we have to parameterize and adjust the EDICOM tools for the different customers we have, in line with their requirements. We also help them and tutor them to use this tool and how to tackle other problems that may arise with these to leave them prepared, so that once in production, they can operate independently on their own.

E: What do you like most about your work?

C.M.: What I like the most, without a doubt, is the international feeling. Maybe one day you will be talking to a client who is Italian, another day with a Spanish customer, and another day with another client from anywhere in the world. I think this is quite interesting, because at the end of the day, it isn’t the same as being with the same people every day. This means that every day we have different meetings and engage in different kinds of projects. This makes the job less monotonous, as you are doing different things each day.

E: What challenges arise in your work?

C.M.: The good thing about being a Software Integrator is that every day we face totally different challenges. Sometimes we have challenges that are much easier or much more routine because we have been doing it day in and day out. But on other occasions, some clients might ask us for much more complex things that we are not able to do due to the limits of our knowledge or because we are not used to dealing with them. Then we have the figure of the Team Manager who helps us to get the job done.

E: Any projects that you feel particularly proud of?

C.M.: The truth is that there are several projects that I have been quite happy with, especially in Latin America, because some countries are still just beginning to roll out e-invoicing and we have helped them to start up, either in Uruguay or in Costa Rica, but I am especially proud of Argentina’s e-invoicing. Specifically, we were developing a billing project in Buenos Aires, in which we had to get in touch with the Buenos Aires Tax Agency to get information, as it was a project that was just starting up, and nobody had done it yet. They helped us to get information, to fight a little bit for it, but then, of course, when things go well, you get more satisfaction from it.

E: Tell us some curiosities or anecdotes about EDICOM.

C.M.: As an anecdote, the best time I had outside the office was at the company dinner. It’s a great time to get together with all your colleagues after a whole year working. It is a good time to talk about off-topic things other than the typical day-to-day issues, to strengthen personal relationships with colleagues, and to have a good time. I believe that these types of events are very special and they are occasions that are truly fulfilling and worthwhile as an employee.
